'Avengers: Infinity War' Sets China Release Date

Disney is planning a major "Avengers Tour" at the Shanghai Disney Resort on April 19 to promote the release.

Disney Marvel's upcoming mega-tentpole Avengers: Infinity War has secured its release date in China, the territory all but certain to be the film's second-biggest market.

The film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and featuring most of the Marvel pantheon, will unfurl in the Middle Kingdom on May 11, two weeks after its North American debut on April 27.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is Hollywood's biggest overall franchise in China by far, challenged only by The Fast and the Furious and past enthusiasm for the Transformers movies. Avengers: Age of Ultron earned $240 million in the country in 2015, setting a slew of records at the time. Captain America and Iron Man movies also have been huge earners, while other MCU character titles consistently pull in more than $100 million.......

The Disney and Marvel tentpole wrests the crown from 'The Avengers.'

Ryan Coogler's Black Panther has become the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America, not accounting for inflation.

The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone on Saturday after passing fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. To boot, Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically, finishing Sunday with $630.9 million to put it at No. 5 on the all-time list......

Local stars such as Eric Tsang, Liza Wang Ming-chuen and Wong Cho-lam were on hand for the launch ceremony of a new organization that will lobby authorities in Beijing on behalf of young talent.

Jackie Chan is spearheading a campaign to push for more Hong Kong actors in Chinese television and film productions. 

The most famous name in the Hong Kong film industry is lending his considerable clout to the Association for Betterment of Hong Kong's Entertainment Industry in Mainland China, which had its official launch ceremony Wednesday at Hong Kong Filmart.

The body will lobby authorities in Beijing as well as collectively bargain key concessions for young Hong Kong talent to secure roles in films and on TV series produced on the mainland......

Slated for release at the beginning of 2019, the US$25 million film tells four intertwining stories examining the Asian drug trade from multiple perspectives.......

Harry J. Ufland, a veteran agent turned producer who collaborated with director Martin Scorsese onThe Last Temptation of Christ and the music video for Michael Jackson's "Bad," has died. He was 81.

Ufland died of brain cancer at his Playa Vista home in Los Angeles, his son, Tommy Ufland, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Ufland also produced films including Irwin Winkler's Night and the City (1992), starring Robert De Niro and Jessica Lange; Carl Franklin's One True Thing (1998), with Meryl Streep nominated for best actress; Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), starring Ethan Hawke; and Crazy/Beautiful (2001), featuring Kirsten Dunst........
