Galloway on Film: How Hollywood Failed Martin Luther King Jr.

King’s life story has been largely absent from the screen. It’s time for that to change.

On April 23, 1967, a small-time convict pulled off a big-time escape.
The convict, known to his jailers as Prisoner #416-J, had been held in the Missouri State Penitentiary for the past seven years and still had years to serve for armed robbery. He previously had been incarcerated for stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of postal money orders, and at age 39, he had spent a good part of his adult life behind bars. But on this spring day, he was preparing to break free.
Rising early, he took the elevator to the prison bakery, where he had worked long enough to know its ins and outs, arriving hours before his shift was due to begin. After wolfing down a dozen eggs, he found his way to a loading dock, where a large metal box had been packed with loaves for the prison’s honor farm. Climbing inside, he buried himself under the thick layers of bread.....

Actress has arrived in Bollywood; 62nd Filmfare Awards is proof women power in male bastion

Bollywood has always been obsessed with the male power and actresses in the industry have been fighting for recognition over the years. But gone are those days when there was a shelf life of actresses as this time, things were different. 2016 was the year of some powerful performances by leading ladies of Bollywood, combined well with some good stories.

In the male dominated industry, things have started changing, slowly and gradually. ‘Queen’, ‘Akira’, ‘Mardaani’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ portrayed females as the protagonists. These movies not received good words from critics but had decent earning at box office.
Gladly, the hard work of actresses was appreciated in the recently concluded 62nd Filmfare Awards.
Filmfare night was the proof that the new era for leading ladies has begun. Needless to say, there is lot more to come from these charismatic Bollywood beauties.
When Actress Sonam Kapoor made her debut in the industry, no one would have ever thought that the lady who was constantly being criticised by the critics will ever won the Critics' Award For Best Actor (Female). But, this happened, all thanks to her portrayal of ‘Neerja’. The credit of this should also go to the director Ram Madhvani who chose a brave script.
‘Neerja’ swept five awards in the starry night.
The role of Bihari migrant portrayed by actress Alia Bhatt came as a pleasing surprise to movie buffs. The lady not only received praises for her acting but her performance was termed as one of the best performances in the multi starrer film. Alia was honoured with the Filmfare Best Actor Award....

'Star Wars: Episode VIII' — Where's the Trailer, Already?

YouTube Star Wars/Screengrab

In the age of instant gratification when it comes to movies, it's (really) hard to wait.
I don't want to put the Bantha before the cart here, because I know there isn't even an official title yet. But come on. Where is the teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII already?

As a huge fan and nerd, I am jonesin' here! And I refuse to believe I am alone.

Let me start by acknowledging that we are so spoiled these days. Trailers are so easily accessible the moment they are released. Thanks to the internet, and more importantly, social media, the instant a teaser for a highly anticipated film comes out, the preview is at our fingertips.

Pretty cool.

I can remember in high school (1999), paying for a ticket to see Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Wing Commander just to watch the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace trailer showing beforehand, then ditching the movie.

Money well spent.

Flying solo on the Golden Globes red carpet, Priyanka Chopra took the moment to share what she is looking for in a man.

The “Quantico” star told “Extra’s” Mario Lopez she wants “someone who can surprise me. Most guys don’t surprise me.”

Mario took the moment to see if he could surprise her. Not able to make her flinch, he jokingly said, “My game is getting weak,” as he showed his wedding ring. The 34-year-old reassured him, “This is good game to have. That means you have done everything in life. It’s your achievement.”

Mario, blushing, responded, “Thank you — it’s my trophy.”

The embrace happened as Ryan Gosling walked to the stage to accept his trophy.

Ryan Gosling may have won best actor in a motion picture, comedy or musical, but for a moment, Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield stole the show.
As Gosling made his way to the stage at the Golden Globes last night to claim the trophy for his La La Land performance, Reynolds and Garfield leaned in for a big kiss on the lips. Look at the top left corner in the GIF below.........

Priyanka Chopra makes stylish appearance at Golden Globe Awards

Actress Priyanka Chopra turned heads when she made her sizzling debut on the red carpet of the 74th Golden Globe Awards. The Bollywood actress presented the award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama. She was accompanied by Hollywood actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan on stage.
Priyanka, who donned a golden glided Ralph Lauren gown with a plunging v-neckline, gave the honour to Hollywood actor Billy Bob Thornton for his role of Billy MacBride in popular legal drama web TV series "Goliath".
Thornton won the award by defeating Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot" ), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul", Matthew Rhys ("The Americans ") and Live Schreiber ("Ray Donovan").

Golden Globes: 'La La Land' Waltzes Away With Trophies, But Meryl Streep Stole the Show

'Moonlight' was named best drama, while acting honors went to Isabelle Huppert, Casey Affleck, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

The all-singing, all-dancing La La Land easily waltzed away with the 74th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, capturing a record seven trophies, including best musical or comedy motion picture, while Moonlight, the intimate study of a young man, both black and gay, struggling to find his place in the world, was named best drama.
But if La La Land's victories looked as if the Globes were embracing light-hearted escapism — albeit an escapism tinged with regret — and celebrating a return to an earlier genre of movie-making, that wasn't the big story of the night....

'Awards Chatter' Podcast — Michael Keaton ('The Founder')

Christopher Polk/Getty Images

The star of the last two best picture Oscar winners reflects on his groundbreaking pair of 'Batman' films ("If it went down, we were going down in a big way"), walking away from a third ("It sucked"), his years in the cold ("Not a whole lot of folks were knocking on my door"), almost starring in 'Lost' and his great run over the last three years ('Birdman,' 'Spotlight' and now a Ray Kroc biopic).

"It's a sneaky kind of movie," says the actor Michael Keaton of his latest, the Ray Krocbiopic The Founder, as we sit down at his office in Santa Monica to record an episode of The Hollywood Reporter's 'Awards Chatter' podcast. "You think you're just gonna see a biopic, and then you realize there are layers to this movie." Indeed, Kroc, as played by the 65-year-old veteran, becomes, unlike most movie protagonists, less and less sympathetic and likable as the Weinstein Co. release goes along. This is particularly jarring for audiences because, for decades, they have known and loved Keaton — in blockbusters like Beetlejuice and Batman (both made in collaboration with Tim Burton) and in art house darlings like Birdman and Spotlight (the last two best picture Oscar winners). But, once they acclimate to The Founder, they may just conclude that the film contains his best performance yet....
