Due to the pandemic, thousands of cinemas in North America have been dark for the better part of nine months, while those that have reopened are operating at dramatically reduced capacity.

Mid-December is usually a launching pad for yuletide-fueled holiday blockbusters. That isn't the case this year as Hollywood and theater owners grapple with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and a virtual nine-month standstill in moviegoing that will result in the worst showing for domestic ticket sales in at least four decades.............

Oscars: Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins to Produce 2021 Telecast

This will be the first time producing the show for the Oscar-winning director, Oscar-nominated producer and Emmy-nominated producer.


In the surest sign yet that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is committed to mounting a televised 93rd Oscars ceremony — in one form or another, despite the raging pandemic — on April 25, the organization announced Tuesday that Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins have agreed to produce the telecast, which will air on ABC..........

Natalie Desselle Reid, Star of 'B.A.P.S.' and 'Eve,' Dies at 53

The actress reportedly died after a battle with colon cancer.

Natalie Desselle Reid, the comedy actress who starred opposite Halle Berry in the 1997 movie B.A.P.S. and had a recurring role on the UPN sitcom Eve, has died. She was 53.

Desselle Reid died Monday morning, her manager, Dolores Robinson, and actress Holly Robinson Peete reported on Twitter.

"Natalie was a bright light. She was an amazing actress and comedienne but also an awesome mother & wife," wrote Robinson.

Robinson Peete added that she was "absolutely decimated" by the news of Desselle Reid's passing. "I got to know her when my mom was managing her," she wrote. "She will be so missed … sending out prayers to her children and husband.".................
