Academy Documentary Branch governors Kate Amend (editor of “The Long Way Home,” “Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport” and “The Case against 8”) and Rory Kennedy (director-producer of “Ethel” and “Last Days in Vietnam”) present this year’s Documentary Feature and Documentary Short Subject nominees and host a panel with the filmmakers. Held on February 22, 2017 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Tamil actress says TV executive spoke 'improperly' to her, says women safety is a joke



A noted Tamil actress today claimed that a TV channel executive had spoken to her in an "improper" manner. This has come at a time of amid growing furore over the abduction and harassment of a leading south Indian actress in Kochi. 

Actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar said women's safety has become a joke, as she rallied behind the fellow actress who faced the harassment in Kochi. 

Narrating the incident of a meeting with the programming head of a "leading" TV Channel, Sarathkumar alleged that towards the end he had asked her if they can "meet outside". 

"When questioned if it was regarding some other work 'his answer (said with a smug like it was the norm) no no! Not work.. For other things," she tweeted.

Golden Reel Awards: 'Hacksaw Ridge' Tops Feature Competition at Sound Editors' Ceremony

At the ceremony, Filmmaker Award honoree Guillermo del Toro said: "I am Mexican and giving me this tells me the barriers people try to erect between us are false."

Hacksaw Ridge
 topped the feature competition at the Motion Picture Sound Editors' Golden Reel Awards, winning two trophies, in the feature categories for dialogue/ADR and effects/Foley.

Also on Sunday at the Westin Bonaventure,
 La La Land won the feature category for music in a musical; Warcraft: The Beginning won the category for sound editing, music; and Moana topped the category for sound and music editing for an animated feature.

Hacksaw Ridge and La La Land are also nominated for the Academy Award in sound editing, along with Arrival, Deepwater Horizon and Sully.
In the MPSE television categories,
 Westworld has a big night, winning two trophies.
Another noteworthy Golden Reel Award winner is Patrick Osborne's musical film
 Pearl, which won the special venue category. Pearl is nominated for an Oscar in the animated short category and was additionally released for 360-degree video and virtual reality.....

'The Great Wall' Premiere: Matt Damon "Jumped" at the Chance to Work With Zhang Yimou 



Damon, Yimou as well as co-stars Jing Tian, Willem Dafoe and Pedro Pascal walked the black carpet Wednesday night at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

“[Zhang Yimou] is one of my favorite directors," Matt Damon told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of The Great Wall. Damon, the star of Yimou's fantasy monster movie, has long wanted to work with the legendary Chinese auteur (director of Hero, House of the Flying Daggers and the creative force behind the epic 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony). "He works almost exclusively in China so I didn’t know if I would ever get a chance to work with him. So when this opportunity came up, I just jumped on it,” he said. 

Speaking through a translator, Yimou said he knew the film would be “complicated” but Damon’s respect for the Chinese culture and people made the process easier. “[Damon] said he came because of me. Well, I accepted the project because of him,” Yimou added.....

Shah Rukh Khan feels sad that 'My Name Is Khan' is still relevant


The King Khan of Bollywood who is making it big at the box-office with his film “Raees” spoke his heart out on the seventh anniversary of “My Name is Khan”.

The Badshah feels that the plot of “My Name is Khan” which was about the plight of Muslims in the US after 9/11 is still relevant today.

The 2010 drama film, which also featured actress Kajol, told the story about Rizvan Khan, who embarks on a journey to meet the US President after his son's killing and attempts to change people's perception about religion.....

Beyhadh sets on fire: Kushal Tandon emerges hero and saves his princess Jennifer Winget


During a wedding sequence of the popular TV show ‘Beyhadh’, the sets caught fire where the heroine Jennifer Winget was left stranded in between the blaze and couldn't do much to get off it as the fire shot up instantly. This is where brave Kushal Tandon came to the rescue and saved his co-star’s life.

While saving Jennifer's life, Kushal suffered burns on neck and legs. His heroic act is now being praised by many on the social media......

'Lego Batman Movie' Premiere: Will Arnett Says He's the "Absurd Batman"


The actor told THR that while he didn't consult with any of his Batman brethren before taking on the role he did spend time with both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.

Will Arnett could tell you the secret to his Lego Batman voice, but then he'd—well, he wouldn't have to kill you, but there would be some fierce litigation.
"I can't. I'm all lawyered up. It's a Lloyds of London insured thing with Warner Brothers, Time Warner, and a bunch of other corporations out of the Cayman Islands and stuff," he joked toThe Hollywood Reporter at the red carpet premiere of The Lego Batman Movie in Westwood on Saturday afternoon.

'Black Panther' to Shoot Key Scenes in South Korea


A huge car chase scene will be shot in March along the landmarks of the port city of Busan.
Marvel Studios will begin shooting key scenes for the upcoming Black Panther movie in Busan, South Korea in March.

Walt Disney Company Korea announced on Wednesday that the shoot is due to take place over roughly two weeks, from late March through early April, in the port city known for hosting the Busan International Film Festival, Asia's largest film event. Locations include the scenic Gwangalli Beach, Gwangandaegyo Bridge and Jagalchi fish market as well as the Sajik-dong area......

$100M Disney Settlement Signals End of Animators' Anti-Poaching Fight


The legal fight began in 2014 when former DreamWorks Animation employee Robert Nitsch Jr. filed an antitrust lawsuit against the major animation studios, following an investigation by the Department of Justice. Nitsch claimed a 1980s gentleman's agreement between Lucasfilm and Pixar to not poach each other's employees led to an industry-wide pact to keep the cost of labor low.

All of the defendants in the suit, Blue Sky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Two Pic MC, Pixar, Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Imageworks and The Walt Disney Company, have now reached settlements with class members. DreamWorks reached its $50 million settlement in October, leaving only Disney and its subsidiaries as holdouts........

“Baahubali 2” has raked in Rs 500 crore even before release, here’s how


The much awaited film of the year “Baahubali 2” has already earned more than Rs 500 crore even before its release, recent reports suggest. Further, the reports said that the massive earning is mostly from the sales of its theatrical rights.

The film, which is being directed by National Award- winner director SS Rajamouli, is set to release in three languages- Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The Hindi version of the film will be presented by Bollywood’s popular filmmaker Karan Johar......
