The 'Jaws' director wrote in an email to The New York Times that though he seeks to preserve the traditional theatrical experience, “I want people to find their entertainment in any form or fashion that suits them.”

Steven Spielberg has broken his silence on his reported plan to ask the Academy's board of governors to vote for a new rule that would combat simultaneous awards-contender releases on streaming platforms and in movie theaters, saying in a statement that he wants everyone to have access to great movies but also that he wants to see movie theaters survive...............

Netflix Adds Nearly 10 Million Subscribers as Competition From Disney, Apple Looms

The streamer's stock on Tuesday was down as much as 6 percent on news that it expects to add just 5 million members during the second quarter.

Netflix added more than 9.6 million subscribers during the first three months of the year but warned that the next quarter could see slower growth. 

The company, which was expected to add just under 9 million members during the period, now has 148.9 million total paying members. It ended 2018 with 139 million paying members.

During the first quarter, Netflix brought in revenue of $4.5 billion, up 22 percent year over year, and had earnings of 76 cents per share. Netflix was expected to bring in revenue of $4.5 billion and earnings of 57 cents per share, per FactSet.........

The demand for tickets when they went on sale Tuesday was so overwhelming it crashed AMC's site and app.

Avengers: Endgame advance ticket sales broke records this week, and those not lucky enough to snag one still have a shot on the secondary market — for a mini Tony Stark fortune.

Tickets for opening day (April 26) of Endgame are going for hundreds, even thousands of dollars in dozens of listings on eBay. While price spikes for tickets in secondary markets are common for high-profile sports events or concerts, it is unusual to see a wide-release theatrical film garner such interest from fans. Endgame tickets for a number of states are listed on eBay..........

On Tuesday, the Moscow International Film Festival, Russia's main international film event, which is scheduled to run April 18-25, unveiled its lineup.

Among the 13 competitors for the Golden St. George, the fest's main award, are My Second Year in College from Iranian director Rasoul Sadrameli; Saturday Afternoon, a Bangladesh, Germany and Russia co-production directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki; My Polish Honeymoon by France's Elise Otzenberger; Davis Simanis' The Mover, a Latvia-Germany co-production; and In Search of Echo by Chinese director Zhang Chi............

Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child.
